All registers use the same unique patient identifier. The “Medical Birth Registry” contains information on date of birth, date of death, date of emigration and date of immigration. The “Patient Registry” contains data from hospitals and specialized outpatient care. Information on hospitalization include personal identifier, age, sex, discharge diagnoses and up to six additional diagnoses, hospital, date of entry and date of discharge. From 1997 ICD-10 have been used to code discharge diagnoses.
